On Behalf Of HRH Al-Faisal, The Judges Open The World Weightlifting Championship In Jeddah Today

On behalf of the Minister of Sports, President of the Saudi Arabian Olympic Committee (SOPC) HRH Prince Abdulaziz bin Turki Al-Faisal, His Excellency the Deputy Minister of Sports, Badr bin Abdul Rahman Al-Qadi, inaugurated this evening, the World Weightlifting Championship for Youth at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel in Jeddah, in the presence of the President of the Weightlifting Federation Dr Michael Irani, and several officials of the International Federation and continental federations of the game. The event, meanwhile, witnessed the participation of more than 300 male and female weightlifters representing 54 international countries.

His Excellency Badr Al-Qadi welcomed the participants and guests of the tournament and said, “I am pleased, on behalf of Prince Abdulaziz bin Turki Al-Faisal, to welcome you to your second country, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and to Jeddah in particular, where the Bride of the Red Sea is hosting the World Weightlifting Championship.”

He added, “The Kingdom has become the focus of the world’s attention, a home for international sports, and a destination for the largest and largest sporting events, as we continue our endeavour to create a bright future at all levels, in line with achieving the goals of the Kingdom’s Vision 2030, which turned the dream of hosting such events into a tangible reality.” Additionally, we extend our thanks to our wise leadership, which provided unlimited attention to the sports sector.

The opening ceremony began with the Saudi royal anthem, then a speech by Professor Muhammad Al-Harbi in which he affirmed that sports in the Kingdom are experiencing a comprehensive renaissance in terms of hosting or participation in light of the generous and unlimited support of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz, and HRH the Crown Prince Muhammad Bin Salman bin Abdulaziz and the follow-up and keenness of HRH the Minister of Sports, Chairman of the SOPC, Prince Abdulaziz bin Turki Al-Faisal, and his deputy, HH Prince Fahd bin Jalawi bin Abdulaziz bin Musaed, and said, “The Kingdom’s Vision 2030 encourages sports federations to host the most important international events and events, which embody the Saudi ambition to reach the sky, as the inspirational and godfather of the vision, HRH Prince Muhammad bin Salman, said. This tournament, he added, is held for the first time in the Arab world.

After that, the opening ceremony was held, which witnessed the establishment of a queue displaying the 54 countries participating in the tournament, in addition to an artistic segment of Saudi folklore.

The championship competitions will start tomorrow, Tuesday, with the Saudi weightlifter Amjad Al-Ghanim, at 3 pm, competing in the 49 kg weight competition, with the participation of 5 weightlifters from the Czech Republic, America, Colombia, Lithuania and Russia. Finally, weightlifter Rafik Mutlaq, will open the participation of the Saudi women’s team in the 40 kg weight competition at 5 pm.
