GCC support to Qatar Football World Cup is granted

Presidents of the GCC National Olympic Committees extended their thanks and gratitude to their Majesties and Highnesses, the leaders of the GCC countries for their keen interest that contributes in achieving sustainable development in sport terms.

The meeting was held last Friday, at the headquarters of the General Secretariat of GCC in Riyadh, chaired by the President of the Saudi Olympic and Paralympic Committee (SOPC) , Prince Abdulaziz bin Turki Al-Faisal, and in the attendance of His Excellency the Secretary General of GCC, Dr. Nayef bin Falah Al-Hajraf.

GCC NOCs approved changing the name of the Gulf Sports Disputes Settlement Authority to be officially named as the GCC Sports Arbitration Authority, which is located in the Kingdom of Bahrain. The approval of this decision in accordance with the recommendation of the 96th Executive Office meeting of the GCC NOCs General Secretaries, which was held last Friday and chaired by VP AND Secretary General of SOPC Prince Fahd bin Jalawi AL Saud.

The meeting approved the termination of the GCC countries sports organizing committees. It also approved the formation of an organizing committee instead for each sports session that is responsible for organizing and following-up the session in accordance with the regulations of the continental and international federations. Four advisory committees for organizing and following up the sports activities named as Sport Committee, Women’s Sport Committee, Athletes Committee, and Paralympic Sports Committee. The formation of these Committees is awaiting a reply from Oman Sultanate.

The meeting also approved the participation of females in all upcoming Games including, the 1st Youth GCC Games in UAE 2023, the 1st Indoor Martial Arts Games Riyadh2024, the 2nd Beach Games Oman 2025, the 4th Gulf Games Qatar2026, and the 4th Beach Games Bahrain2027.

The meeting approved the organization of the combined club championship for the league champions for team games for both genders.

Within the same context, Presidents of GCC NOCs expressed their thanks and appreciation to the State of Kuwait for holding an outstanding GCC Games in May 2022.

The meeting concluded, with the best wishes of the State of Qatar, to organize a remarkable version of FIFA World Cup starting next November, with an emphasis on the commitment of all the Gulf NOCs to provide support to the State of Qatar to organize a successful version of the Football World Cup.
