Featuring the participation of 6,000 athletes from more than 200 national clubs, the very first edition of an historic Saudi Games has successfully come to an end.

In addition to winning their medals, participants also received some of the largest prizes in the history of sport in the region, with a total of more than SAR 200 million prize money distributed. Gold medal winners received SAR 1 million each, with silver medallists receiving SAR 300,000, and bronze winners earning SAR 100,000.

In his closing speech, HRH Prince Fahd bin Jalawi bin Abdulaziz bin Musaed, Vice-president of the Saudi Olympic and Paralympic Committee, and Director of the Saudi Games, paid tribute to the winners and participants of the Saudi Games 2022, as well as all the individuals involved in the event.

HRH stated: “Today, we congratulate you all on the great success achieved by the Saudi Games in its first edition. This success, of course, would not have been achieved without the support of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, may Allah protect him. It is this support that inspired and motivated our athletes to work hard towards achieving their dreams and ambitions.

“We are proud that the Saudi Games also embodied the encouraging vision of the Crown Prince, HRH Prince Mohammed bin Salman, who has inspiringly placed the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia on the global sports map in such a short period of time. Today, we celebrate a creation of his generous leadership and support, and that of the Kingdom’s Vision 2030.”

HRH continued: “Words truly cannot express how happy we are with the exceptional competitive atmosphere we experienced together over the last 11 days in the country. We are tremendously proud of the 6,000 participating athletes, who demonstrated phenomenal talent, passion, determination, and of course, hard work, in the 45 sporting disciplines of the Games.”

“We must also pay tribute to and thank each and every single individual who played a role in making the Saudi Games the success it was. Thank you to everyone who created this wonderful launching pad for our sporting heroes.”

HRH concluded: “I have great confidence that this edition of the Saudi Games will have an enormously positive impact on the Saudi sports sector, with future events shaping the future of Saudi sports.”

The Saudi Games 2022 officially concluded with a closing ceremony headlined by Gulf singing superstar Rabeh Saqer, as well as a host of other Saudi stars.
